What Healing Feels Like at 62

When I was younger, I thought healing meant the pain would disappear.

I thought one day I would wake up and all the hurt, disappointment, rejection, and self-doubt would be gone.

At 62, I have learned something different.

Healing does not always feel like freedom.

Sometimes healing feels like choosing peace over proving a point.

Sometimes healing feels like changing passwords, setting boundaries, and protecting your energy without guilt.

Healing at 62 feels less like becoming someone new and more like returning to myself.

I no longer need everyone to understand me. I no longer need every wrong to be made right. I no longer spend as much time chasing closure from people who were never willing to give it.

That does not mean the memories are gone.

Some wounds still ache when touched.

Some disappointments still sting.

Some days I still wonder why certain things happened the way they did.

But healing has taught me that peace isn't found in having all the answers. Peace comes from accepting that some questions may never be answered.

Healing at 62 feels quieter than I expected.

It feels like sitting alone and not feeling lonely.

It feels like watching a sunset and realizing that slowing down is not the same as giving up.

It feels like spending time with people who value me and letting go of those who do not.

It feels like finally understanding that my worth was never determined by who stayed, who left, who supported, or who didn't.

Most of all, healing at 62 feels like grace.

Grace for the younger version of me who did the best she could with what she knew.

Grace for the mistakes I made.

Grace for the dreams that took longer than expected.

And grace for the woman I am still becoming.

Because healing isn't a destination.

It's a lifelong journey.

And at 62, I can honestly say I am still healing, still growing, still learning, and still becoming.

That, to me, is a beautiful thing. Nothing I have lived through is wasted.
