Releasing The Old to Get to The New

Sometimes You Have to Put It Down Before You Can Pick It Up

There comes a moment in life when you realize you’re carrying things that were never meant to go with you into your next season.

Old hurts.

Old disappointments.

Old expectations.

Old versions of yourself.

For years, I thought healing meant learning how to carry those things better. I believed if I became stronger, wiser, or more patient, the weight wouldn’t feel so heavy.

I was wrong.

Healing isn’t always about becoming stronger.

Sometimes it’s about becoming lighter.

You can’t fill your hands with new blessings while you’re still gripping old pain. You can’t fully embrace peace while arguing with your past. And you can’t become who you’re meant to be if you’re constantly trying to resurrect the person you had to outgrow.

That doesn’t mean the past didn’t matter.

It mattered.

Every tear mattered.

Every betrayal mattered.

Every lesson mattered.

But not everything that teaches you deserves to travel with you.

I’ve spent years trying to understand why certain people treated me the way they did. Why some relationships ended. Why some dreams took so long. Eventually, I realized I was asking questions that no longer deserved my energy.

The answer wasn’t going to change what happened.

But letting go could change what happens next.

Releasing isn’t quitting.

It’s choosing peace over proving a point.

It’s choosing growth over resentment.

It’s choosing your future over your history.

Sometimes releasing looks dramatic.

Sometimes it looks like changing your phone number.

Sometimes it looks like setting boundaries.

Sometimes it looks like forgiving someone who never apologized.

And sometimes…

It simply looks like waking up one morning and deciding you’re no longer going to let yesterday make today’s decisions.

That’s where freedom begins.

The beautiful thing about letting go is that nature has been teaching us this lesson all along.

Trees don’t argue with autumn.

They don’t tape dead leaves back onto their branches.

They trust that letting go is part of making room for new growth.

Maybe we should trust the process a little more too.

Today, I’m learning to stop mourning every closed door and start looking for the ones opening in front of me.

I’m releasing guilt.

I’m releasing fear.

I’m releasing the need to explain myself to people committed to misunderstanding me.

I’m releasing the version of me that believed I had to earn love by carrying everyone else’s burdens.

Because the woman I’m becoming needs room to breathe.

She needs space to dream.

She needs both hands free to receive what’s next.

If you’re standing at the edge of a new beginning, wondering why it feels so difficult to move forward, maybe this is your reminder.

Look at what you’re still carrying.

Ask yourself one simple question:

Does this belong in the life I’m trying to build?

If the answer is no…

Thank it for the lesson.

Put it down.

And keep walking.

The next version of your life may be waiting on the other side of what you’re finally willing to release.

A Note from Ppinky:

Sometimes God doesn’t ask us to carry more. Sometimes He simply asks us to trust Him enough to let go.

What are you ready to release so you can make room for something new?
